Drugs
Using again does not mean recovery is over
Substance-use recovery can include recurrence. The immediate response should be safety, not fatalism.
Safety first: alcohol withdrawal and withdrawal from some drugs can be medically dangerous. If you are a heavy or regular user, have had withdrawal before, or feel unwell when stopping, seek medical advice.
Immediate safety first
Breathing difficulty, loss of consciousness, severe agitation, chest pain or suspected overdose require urgent medical help.
Tolerance can change
After a period without a drug, previous amounts may be more dangerous for some substances because tolerance can fall.
Strengthen the plan
Identify access, people, places and emotions that preceded use and add support when needed.
Use the tool: choose a realistic next interval, return and answer honestly. A NO does not erase previous choices. The timer is not a substitute for medical treatment.
