Safety first
A timer can support a choice. It cannot make dangerous withdrawal safe.
Alcohol: HSE says withdrawal symptoms can begin around 8 hours after the last drink and can worsen over the following 24–48 hours. Severe withdrawal can include seizures, hallucinations and delirium tremens.
Get medical advice when needed
If you drink heavily or regularly, have had withdrawal before, use drugs regularly, mix substances, are pregnant, take medicines that may be affected, or feel significantly unwell when stopping, seek professional advice.
Emergency symptoms
Seizures, severe confusion, breathing difficulty, loss of consciousness, suspected overdose, severe chest pain or other emergency symptoms require urgent local medical help.
