Recovery is not one approved lifestyle
Recovery can become another rigid identity test if people insist there is only one legitimate route.
Safety first: alcohol withdrawal and withdrawal from some drugs can be medically dangerous. If you are a heavy or regular user, have had withdrawal before, or feel unwell when stopping, seek medical advice.
Many pathways can be valid
Public-health guidance recognises that recovery is highly personal and can involve different combinations of support.
Safety and evidence still matter
Personal choice does not make every method equally safe. Detox planning and medication can be essential for some people.
Keep what is useful
The Stop Dependencies check-in can be one tool inside a larger plan rather than the whole plan.
Use the tool: choose a realistic next interval, return and answer honestly. A NO does not erase previous choices. The timer is not a substitute for medical treatment.
